The Great Grape Harvest
1950s. The Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A group of seasonal grape-harvesting workers fights to survive under the yoke of a brutal boss. In a land where silence and oppression reign supreme, forbidden desires will shatter the collective order and push both bosses and workers toward tragedy and inevitable change.
The Classic Class Clash
"There were over forty souls, among men, women, and children."
The story repeated itself every end of summer. A group of workers would descend from the mountains to the Douro valley for the grape harvest, hoping to earn enough to survive yet another harsh winter. Exploited and humiliated by their boss, Lopes—a former agricultural worker who rose through ambition and brute force—they nonetheless find, in the very hardship of the labor, a fleeting sense of freedom and celebration, where long-repressed desires find fertile ground to grow.
While Lopes seeks to consolidate his social rise through an alliance with the Meneses, a decaying aristocratic family, the arrival of the seductive Dr. Bruno disrupts the fragile balance between landowners, workers, and families.
The harvest then turns into a battlefield where classes, honor, and survival collide. In the end, the gathering will spill blood, and the wine will flow in tears.
