Viagem - Entre Estrelas e Ondas
Featured in the festival’s Portuguese selection "Viagem – Entre Estrelas e Ondas" is the animated feature film by Cláudio Jordão, featuring the voices of Ivo Canelas and Dalila Carmo. It is a proposal that blends milestones of our history with an animation style inspired by the technique of traditional Portuguese tiles.
Five narratives intertwine as different manifestations of a single journey. A fishing boat sets sail from Olhão toward Brazil, weathering a storm caught between reality and the fantastic. An astronaut wanders among moons, chasing his own head as it stubbornly insists on leaving without him. Before the creation of the Universe, God’s parents confront the need to let their son go. Vasco da Gama faces the ocean and the unknown on the voyage that will take him to India. And, on a pier by the Atlantic, a woman waits for the loved one who left—and for the promise of his eventual return.
On a voyage through impossible times and distant worlds, guided by a mysterious cosmic phenomenon that seems to preserve and tell stories, the characters shift shape, gender, era, and universe, but something remains: there is always someone who leaves and someone who waits.
Bridging Portuguese tradition and science fiction, VIAGENS – ENTRE ESTRELAS E ONDAS (Journeys – Between Stars and Waves) creates a territory of "sci-fado": spaceships, galaxies, black holes, and time travel infused with fatalism, solitude, and saudade—not only for what was left behind, but also for what has not yet happened.
Because leaving is also believing in the unknown. And waiting is believing in the return.
